Message from the President
Dr. Pettis Perry, Ed.D.
Today, May 20, 2016 marks a solemn yet momentous occasion in the life of The Michael F. Lange Foundation. One year ago today we celebrated the loss and life of Michael F. Lange who, in very personal ways, touched the lives of so many thousands of children, adults, families, and communities. Michael was truly one of a kind human being, who never spoke ill of anyone in the nearly 45 years I knew him. Today, on the anniversary of his passing, we again celebrate his life through the birth of a foundation in his name to continue his legacy in perpetuity. We know that our work is cutout for us as we try to do collectively what he did by himself through the myriad ways he touched each of us who knew him.
To date, we have taken a simple idea and brought it to life by creating a foundation committed to Michael’s ideals of promoting and bringing about global social change, social justice and peace. We have identified five key initiatives to begin our work: Collaboration and Capacity Building, Economic Development, Education and the Arts, Health and Wellness, and the Environment. Through this set of initiatives, we are seeking organizations and individuals to support and with whom to collaborate to create a better world through global social change, social justice, and peace. We know that we have tough work ahead because we live in an environment of violence, compliance, and lack of concern for our neighbors rather than in an environment of peace, values, and compassion for difference.
We are proud to emerge as a grassroots organization comprised of committed individuals to a common cause. Members of our Board of Directors have made initial personal pledges of $5,200 in 2016 and $3,500 in 2017 to help underwrite some of the initial costs associated with creating our organization. The Board of Directors approved a budget of more than $37,000 to cover anticipated operational expenses in 2016.
The Michael F. Lange Foundation is led by a highly experienced and technically competent group of Board of Directors whose members have senior executive leadership and management experience in a variety of organizational environments. Therefore, you can rest assured that the organization is well-managed and that our resources will be used for the stated purposes as outlined in our mission statement, vision statements, and initiatives.
